Full moon this Friday, October 6th. Find someplace to take a gander as it sets larger than life in the western sky just about the time some folks rise. I'll likely be heading about 4-5am-ish (depending on the day) on the 5th-7th to the Manhattan Beach pier here in California to try and take some photos and soak in the beautiful majesty as it sets into the Pacific. Setting full moon and a rising sun...nothing else quite like it. Go ahead, treat yourself, grab someone, anyone. Go!

S
ettings and risings.
Pretty much a metaphor for life.

Brings back memories of my third grade teaching days. For the fun of the kids, I'd schedule
a couple night time viewings of the rising, full, harvest moon in October or November. Kids, parents, grandparents, and siblings would arrive clutching blankets, binoculars, and cocoa to eagerly await the giant blood orange disc's rising. 100% of the time it inspired awe and squealing excitement...huge and orange, reflecting in kids' eyes as it rose from somewhere beyond the mountains which were silhouetted sharp and jagged across its glowing face. Kids knew all about what was going on...why the intense color at the horizon but white overhead...its structure and history with parents chiming in having been primed by the kids.

Settings and risings. Sun or moon. A metaphor for life?

One door closed, another opened.

One creative pitch rejected, another premiered on national television.

One career ended, another beginning.

Might be a bit hard, though, to stumble through the blackness (just like the weeks when we don't see the moon)
between the settings and risings.

Peace, tolerance and happy endings to you and yours.
